rear diff/gearbox question

bought my car a shell+lots of parts.engine/box 99/00 v5
rear diff marked(in white paint pen)r180.is this the correct
combination?what ratios are they please?thanks in advance neal

If the diff' is an R180, it's from a Jap TypeR, and won't work.

Fistly, the R180 uses different drive shafts to the standard R160 diff', and the rear wheel hubs/brakes would also need to be changed.

Next, the UK box will have a 3.9 crown wheel and pinion, and the output shaft is a 1.1:1. The R180 is a 4.444, and if used with the 3.9, will trash the centre diff, because the front wheels will turn at a different speed to the rear.

The easiest solution, is to get a UK rear diff'.

greif!!the car is going to be a rally car.is there a front diff
option to fot the uk gear box,or do i have to get a type R box
instead?your comments would be of great help,cheers neal

bob give me a bell I have a close ratio STI motorsport box with uprated centre diff on 4.1 crown wheel and pinion and I have a 4.1 rear diff to go with it mailed you my number
