Cone air filters ?
#1
Has anyone done any dyno runs (before and after) fitting a K & N or similar cone air filter.
Does it actually give any extra power or just make more noise ?
I have a Terzo with Prodrive back box and a K&N and am considering taking the K&N off to make it quieter (boy, I sound old and boring now !).
Does the filter make any difference to fuel consumption as well ?
If it gives more power I will be sure to leave it alone !
Cheers

So you are guessing it actually makes it slower rather than faster, definatly coming off now then ;-).
Mind you, I doubt it will turn as many heads without the sucking noise from the k&n;-)
I was under the impression the ECU would remap itself to suit the extra airflow. Is this not the case ?
Cheers for the quick response.

When I added the K&N 57i to my MY00 which already had a full decat exhaust I found it revved a lot more freely and pulled harder to the red-line. So much so that I hit the limiter a few times until I got used to it ! IMHO it's only worth it if you already have the full decat.
It does introduce a lean spot on low revs which can be corrected with a ECUTEK Tek2 remap.
Andy.

Im not sure about the K&N, its very good, I had one fitted and thought it was good. But, about 6 months later I took it off and was much happier. It made it sound like a tank and makes a nasty noise when you let off. If you're going to get one though, thats the one to go for. No MAF failures etc...
I know the APS one (similar) has proven to run v. lean on the RR. There were some results on here a while back.
I would be wary without a re-map, but I am quite a cautious chap!

Anyhow, back to the plot, the K&N 57i seems to be pretty well liked on here, as there's not been reports of "K&N killed my MAF".
However, MAFs have failed even on the standard induction setup...
