My gearbox has started to make a very unhealthy noise in third. It is a metallic rattle that appears to have a revolution to it. The other gears have also started to become noisy in the last mile or so. Needless to say I haven’t driven it since!

I am able to select any gear without a problem and the car is fine when freewheeling but as soon as you touch the accelerator the noise begins.

Presumably my box is shagged?! Anyone got one for sale or can you recommend someone to carry out the work.

Car is a WRX STi II

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BTW....don't think its the synchro that's gone....I'm no G/B xpert, but the synchro is only for changing gear.....sounds to me like the bearings in one of the shafts....esp as its affecting all gears.

If you're pulling 1/4 miles in 12 that suggests big power to me....the std G/B can only take 300ftlb or so. What boost do you run. If you're in the habit of doing aggressive acceleration runs then the peek torque through the box will be massive.

Let me know how much it costs to get fixed.

Yep. Works out cheaper to buy a second hand gearbox.
