Question

Right, to cure overboost PS gave me a 1.3mm restrictor to replace my standard 1.2mm. Now there one is much bigger than the 1.2 subaru oem on so theres no way I can get it in the pipe. Can I use different (larger) piping or will this throw the boost off?

If this is not a good idea I could always source a 1.2 from subaru and drill it out? What do peeps think is the best option?

Mega_Stream - John, have you tried the 1.25mm restrictor yet and if so what was the result, or do you think its gotta be 1.3?

Cheers all

It is difficult in practice to get restrictors "just right". Best to use a restrictor valve and be done with it, or one of those manual boost controllers, what are they called again ?

Agree with John there , its actually a lot of fun to pull over and adjust . I always did like fiddling . And you can get it just right .

Hi John

I prefer my fuel consumption without "that device" With "that device" it was terrible, about 17mpg on average, with the TEK its much better, so where can I source one of these restrictor valves from and how would I implement it into the system?

Cheers
Neil

Neil

The 1.25mm restrictor is very slightly better than the 1.3mm one.

With the 1.25mm it holds 1.15bar, with the 1.3mm about 1.05bar

However with the 1.2mm it holds 1.25 but spikes to 1.4 bar

Bizzare the way it seems to spike so much with the 1.2mm fitted, I've had to resort to "that device" again now and its nice and settled at 1.25 held and a tiny fraction over this peak reading after WOT in 4th and 5th. Very smooth power delivery right up to past 6k rpm pulls strong all the way.

The good thing is I've seen virtually no knock on any of the restrictors

I can't understand why your fuel consumption is so bad though, mine has improved by around 10%, even with "that device"

Thanks JB

John, thanks for that mate. So the 1.25 is best if going the restrictor route Thats exactly what I've found BTW - the 1.2 holds 1.25 with an overboost to 1.4 Not tried any others yet. Perhaps I'll have to get another Dawes

As for fuel consump, when I was running AE800 and dawes it was horrendous - 17mpg and only just 20 if on a run. Then I got the TEK2 with 17Psi target and its more like 20 and 24 on a run. Strange since you saw an increase!
What size bleed are you running on the dawes out of interest?

Thanks
Neil.

I'm using a 3 port solenoid now, but the Dawes for a TD04L should have at least a 1.0mm bleed hole.

Cheers
Neil.
