Getting ready to replace my tired clutch & priced up lightened flywheels (fecking hell how much) so was wondering if anyone on here had machined their standard one & had instructions Etc.

had my standard one machined down to 8kgs. still idles fine and tootles along, but gives the engine a MUCH more lively feeling and revs up a lot quicker.

think standard weight is about 11kgs+ i did weigh it, but forgotten what it was exactly

p.s. all the material removed came off the rear face (not clutch side). you will notice the standard flywheel is really thick.

I had a standard flywheel lighted to 8.4kg (from 11.6) cost about 90 quid including balancing the flywheel and clutch cover plate separately ie if I replace the clutch I just need get the coverplate balanced

I also had 2 more locating pins fitted in this price (the cover plate can accept 4 but the flywheel only has 2)

Made a huge difference to the way the car behaves around town (happier in lower gears) and obviously improved the way the engine picks up!

The only advice I would have is, 1) buy a good second hand flywheel and get that modified (saves time, and also the old one could be riddled with cracks on the clutch face from the heat like mine was 2) make sure that the ring gear is in good condition, apparently it helps to hold the cast flywheel together and shouldn't be changed when lightening up the flywheel!

I don't have any drawings or photos but mine was lightened to 7kgs in the same way as UKLegacyT's. Been no trouble so far.

take it to TSL in notts they will do it all when changing your clutch , the whole thing is not cheap but if you want it done well look no further.
