Last week,I had the remaining cat in my exhaust system removed and replaced by a Scoobysport decat up-pipe.Since having it done,I now notice two things:
1. The car smells quite "fumey" when starting from cold
2. It sounds like it is blowing but it ain't if you get my meaning
Any other MY01/02 owners done the full decat and got any thoughts?
(I'm guessing these two statements are normal but need some reassurance!!) (Car has 16k miles on it now)
Thanks in advance
Nick

Chill.
Exactly the same as mine was mate.
Give it time to settle down and you won't hear the blowy noise. The smell will also disapear slightly, its mostly unburnt fuel AFAIK.
Can you now hear the wastegate chattering and turbo spinning rom 2250-2500 revs?
Nathan..

The answers above are spot on. The funny smell is unburnt fuel, the MY01+ WRX ECU dumps loads of fuel in when the engine is cold to warm up the uppipe cat - which as it is no longer there means it goes straight out of the exhaust. The extra noise is probably the noise from the turbo/wastegate, but check the gasket joints for blowing. If it isn't blowing, you can get rid of most of the extra noise by wrapping the uppipe, but you need to take it off to do it.
