Question

Cheers Pete.

So if a standard flywheel weighs approx 10.5Kg - then approx 3Kg can be taken off bringing down to 7.5Kg.

Is that right?

Question

As I understand it My96 runs a 225mm Clutch - this changed in the My97-00 cars to 230mm.

I need to change my Clutch & believe 230mm is the way to go (whether its a standard Clutch - Uprated STI - Helix - AP - Brembo or Mark R19ket special - I've not yet decided)

So to take the bigger clutch I believe the fly can easily be skimmed to accomodate this (Assuming its not completely shafted & needs replacing too).

So the question is if the flywheel is being skimmed - can more be taken off to lighten it - & if so by how much - note I still want the car to idle

What is sensible & safe - whats too much?

Cheers,

Chris

I hade mine skimmed recently, asked a few of the well known tuners and most said "yeh, get it lightened", but as mine was changed due to judder it was thought that as much weight on it was better!!,mine was on a MY00, and i think the previous models were ok for judder,so i would stick to what you have with just the uprated clutch kit. the newer models all seemed to get hot spots on the face of the flywheel, which seems to be incurable, maybe caused by being slightly bigger????dunno

fyi,my new clutch is a prodrive gp "n" paddle clutch, and is more juddery than before, cant drive it as fast as before from a standstill, but once moving it is a much better feeling clutch than standard

Chris

Most of the best clutches will be 230mm only.

If you want it lightened, the "fat" gets removed from the outside edge of back. Go down to about 7.5kg.
