Can you just vent a recirculating DV to atmosphere and seal off the return?

Just thinking with the catch can as well (and no connected wastegate solenoid) that I might end up with nothing much venting into the inlet pipe and might just go for a new one without any vents... ie a piece of Samco with a bend on the end... need to have a look when it is light.

Yeah I believe a few guys have done this with the standard BOV, disconnected the pipe and sealed off the pipe to the manifold. Cheap VTA !!!

If i remember rightly JB you have a forge item which will work, however the standard Recirc one will leak... i know more people who have tried this and had poor idling due to it not sealing properly on tickover than people who have been able to sucessfully use the standard DV as a Atmos one...
As i said, i think you have the forge one, but for any people out there who are thinking mmmmmmmmmm cheap atmos DV..

Yes I have the Forge. Also the idea of hot air hitting the ar$e end of the MAF sensor does not appeal. I am on a mission to clean up my intake

Er, this is earily strange. I've just tried it yesterday and erm, how should I say this, it did not go well

I blanked the return pipe at the point where you'd put a knock sensor and just vented the std recirc BOV to atmos. The car started OK but felt very lumpy, I initially thought the car was cold but the revs kept dying and it eventually stalled. I even saw puffs of smoke from the rear, very white smoke and the AFR was off the scale.

I returned the car to normal and all was well again.

So what went wrong?

All I can imagine is that the BOV let air in and out when it was not quite open or closed, causing imbalance in the air fuel ratio.

Wink

Its because the car will see the air that is vented as lost air from the system.... the way other dump valves work that are designed for the scoob or cars with an AFM, is they have a twin piston design and prevent drivability problems, using just the scoob DV vented to atmosphere would be like using a normal diaphram type DV....
