I get an annoying judder when I pull away and the car is cold. Spoke to my dealer and he said if it was UK sourced they would change the clutch. As it is from belgium, subaru UK would have to seek approval from belgium and this has not been successful in the past. He reckons I should just put up with it as it is a feature, not a fault.

Car done 15,000 miles.

Any advice ?

Can't really give you any advice, other than I have an MY02 (6 months old) and it occasionally does it as well, when cold...

Have you checked out the search facility?

Some say that if you give the clutch some welly from a standstill it cleans the plate and stops it for a while.....

Tony

Edited 'cos I always spell from as form...p1$$e$ me off!

The seeking approval bit is certainly true, of course being in Belgium they wont have you constantly down there show room screaming at them so are more likley to decline.

He reckons I should just put up with it as it is a feature, not a fault.
You might not be able to go the the Belgium dealers show room, but if you keep complaining to your loacl dealer about how undrivable the car is getting etc, then you should get result.

They all do that sir

Have the same car, same miles. Clutch judders a bit when its cold, but then soon goes away. Is it that bad?

I think there's something more on this on www.sidc.co. uk in their faqs section

Have an MY01 belgian import here and you'll find that if you have the english translation of the Warranty Document, the clutch is not covered.Trust me,I know!!

Cheers

Nick

Edited to say mine now has 16k miles on it and judders now and again when the car is cold!!

Phew! thats a relief . My 8500 mile MY02 does the same when cold, especially if you pull away slowly from a stand still.. glad I ain't the only one It's an ex-demo that I have had for a few weeks now and I was worried that the clutch was completely trashed!
I have also noticed that it's not that easy to perform a really smooth gear change, or am I just a crap driver

Both of my Imprezas have suffered from this. When it gets to be a real pain I just do an "enthusiastic" standing start and that cures it. Not ideal but it works.

Yep, judder for me on my MY01. Started around 13K and now has 25K on it. Had not bothered going to the dealer yet, it was a UK car as well.

I did find that when I 'gave it some' on the way to Le Mans it sorted itself out for quite a few weeks. Started to judder again now, especially when cold, warm it is okay.

Might go to the dealer for a coffee and a chat!

Kev, dry yourself with a towel and stay indoors to keep warm, that should stop you juddering

Mine did it really bad one day after a very enthusiastic start a few hours before (clutch actually slipped when pulling 2nd gear :-( )

To fix, there is a simple solution: put the car in 2nd or 3rd, and try to get it off the mark with 2000rpm or so... this seems to burn off the glazed bits (which is what causes the juddering in the first place...) Obviously don't strain the engine doing this, and you only need to do it for about 3 or 4 secs before putting the clutch in and starting moving properly!
