Which panel filters, if any are safe, regarding level of filtration and also safe for the maf. I have seen reports of the oil etc coming off. The car is an Stiv5.

I've always got the impression from the BBS, that the ITG is the best. Apparent 'best' filtration that is around at the mo

ITG screwed my MAF on MY99 which apparently has sensitive MAF.

I have a Ramair one which I clean/treat with a pack (two spray cans - one to clean and one to re-oil/gunge) bought from Camberley Auto Factors (local to work). No problems that I know of, had it for two or three years now.

Thumbs up

ITG 30,000 miles, not a single problem.

MY00 by the way. ITG's tend to damage stuff when fitted incorrectly i.e upside down or trapped inbetween the air box and its lid.

Other examples are probably a tad more forgiving

ITG is ok when installed correctly, but it won't make much diff in preformance anyway.

Removed ITG, Airbox Lid, and MAF to measure up turbo inlet, removed black sludge from bottom of airbox, together with plant and insect parts stuck to downstream face of filter opposite MAF

ITG had been on for c. 7,500 miles

Put it all back together while I waited for a dry foam cone filter, when I was fitting it one week later I found fresh black sludge in bottom of airbox

You should consider sticking to standard panel, or a dry foam panel such as HKS. I doubt there is much of a performance difference from the standard panel, as long as it changed as required

Cool

Gridlock Mikey

I'm sure it wouldn't help fitting it incorrectly but trust me on this one.... When fitted 100% correctly they can still **** the MAF.
If in any doubt then check with Subaru UK at West Brom.

I previously echoed your opinion (ie. yeah 8,000 miles and no problems at all)....then ooops!

Cheers

Wink

SiPie,

Maybe i'm not going round corners as fast as you, thus allowing the "goop" to swill up to my inlet

I have cleaned my air box out twice and the amount of oil has been about a tea spoon full, you guys make it sound like there is 15 gallons of the stuff swilling around Yes there have been dead furry things in it and the odd tree, but that's what it is there for isn't it? Oh i've removed my resonator aswell if someone wants to have a go about how it's gonna make my car explode (Bloody hell!!! ITG AND no resonator, christ he's mad )

I think that all aftermarket air filters/induction kits carry risks but of varying types, ITG are easy to "pick on" in true Scoobynet stylie i.e. Brilliant one day, ****e the next because there is a visual "potential" threat i.e. oil. Cone filters get dissed on here periodically for allowing Too much air in at the wrong temperature then suddenly they are VITAL if you want the best out of your car.
Same as Brakes, Brake pads, speakers for ICE, quick shifts, ECU's, Wheels, Tyres the list is endless.

There are many things that can bugger a MAF up, if it goes, how do you know it was ya filter? I could have been on it's way out anyway.

For every dealer/aftermarket supplier/owner that says a certain product is the mutts nutts, there is one that will swear blind that it will knacker up ya car. It's the way of the world

Talking

also suppose it depends on the driver - how they feel the car is performing...

i had a gooey filter in my my99 car...
i had to change the maf... coz was sure i felt it wasnt performing correctly...

the maf was slightly tinged with yellow stuff.. u could leave finger prints on it..
the new one was nice n shiney..

this wasnt an ITG filter - but i am convinced that i am going to stick with paper now...
