That title sounds a bit strange! but it is best way I can describe it. Basically when on full right lock and slowly pulling into my drive or a parking slot. I get this sort of clang (just one)from the rear diff/drive shaft area (I think thats where its coming from anyhow) that I would expect from a Knackered front drive shaft on full lock when driving slowly in a circle.

That's one possibility, another is that the anti roll bar link bushes are worn out on the back. (Common on older cars like mine )

At least it's cheaper than driveshafts...

Thanks guys. But how do I check these, I take it there must be a certain amount of movement in at least one plane? Do I try and lever it in some fashion?

 

If I were you I'd attempt to wiggle the "C" drop link whilst the wheels are on the deck and see what kind of movement you get. Then jack car up with wheels still on ground but suspension unloaded and try again. I'm sure you'll find a few thudding noises on the bushes should they be gubbed. I think this is the right method in checking, thats how the garage failed my car at last MOT IIRC.

My car is also a WRX 1995. If I were you I'd replace these links anyway as they are a lot stronger and you do feel a tightness from the rear end with these fitted. Will be doing the front links soon as well.

Top man, thanks for the info. ps how much are they anyhow. Just had a new clutch + downpipe at TSL last week, ouch!

Could be as simple as the wheel bearing .. wife's car had a real clang from the front offside pulling out of the drive on full lock. Went to the garage twice and could see nothing loose/worn. Then the bearing got changed (long story, but no grease in it - sealed cartridge type!!) and no more clanging...
