ECU Error/Lambda Sensor
#1
Well I drop the car off at 8am yesterday, by 5pm I thought I'd ring them to find out what was going on, "yep all done sir".
So I picked the car up last night, they traced the wires to find some connections behind the battery that were corroded so they cleaned/replaced them free of charge for me (of course I had paid for a new lambda sensor so not really free). Anyway I drove it back home last night (about 30 miles) and no CEL so far, fingers crossed.
Cheers.
Ian.

The check engine light came on a month ago, so I took the car to my local Subaru Dealer. The error code was for the Lambda sensor and pressure switch, these were both cleaned and the ECU re-set.
A few miles up the road (going up hill) the check engine light comes back on, so I go back to the dealer who confirm the error is from the lambda sensor which needs replacing (sounds fair).
So lambda sensor now replaced and 30 miles later (going up hill again) the check engine light comes on, go back again and its the same error code. Car's going back in next week for more diagnostic’s and will hopefully get sorted.
Has anyone had the same/similar problem as this, or any idea of what is causing it?.
Cheers.

Hi
My car is a 94 legacy 2L and I have exactly the same problem except it is at a steady crusing speed (60+ mph) I have replaced the lamba sensor just because the code said so (the old one tested fine!). I am working on a cure but have improved things by earthing the sensor back to the battery. Reason -as the exaust is rubber mounted and on an old car the exaust flange rusts there is a resistance between the engine and the exaust in certain circumstances this can confuse the lamda sensor voltages sent to the ECU, the earth improves this. I am now going to check the MAF sensor and hope for a full cure.
Let me know how you get on.
Dick

Thanks for the reply Dick,
I was going to do the single point ground modification to try and cure the hesitation, so I think I’ll include this at the same time.
Thanks for the fresh hope.

Might be worth making one of the lamda sensor checking devices that have been posted on this site before. I have made one and it helps to see if the O2 sensor is working or not when the light is on. If you can't find the thread let me know.

Had a look on the search and found a link to this http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/Forum8/HTML/000041.html and surprise, surprise this problem seems to be one of those "they all do that" type Subaru things but no one seems to know what is actually wrong with it. Let us know the link you have seen Dick, more knowledge is good.
Cheers.

Have read the thread and i agree with all of it but you have had a new sensor so i don't think it is the same problem. Have a look at this site and make yourself the tester then you can see what is happening to the o2 sensor as you drive.

I have now found that the plug for the lamda sensor on mine was not conducting well and have bipassed it, the CEL has not come on since( bet it does though )
