Engine ECU Question for Legacy Turbo
#1
Anyone give me an answer to this please. Ive been told that if i disconect the battery on my legacy for 4 hrs and then Reconect it. Then start Engine up till it reaches normal operating temp then drive it down the road giving it loads of Right Boot the ECU will Change its parameters to cope with that type of driving . I was told to make sure it had Optimax in it before hand but the guy said it would make the car easier to drive etc etc and could possibly give me a bit more umfhhhhh. Any one heard of this please. All Suggestion Welcome.

Sort of, depends on the year.
If it's a single turbo legacy 91-94, or twin turbo 94-98, then all you need to do is disconnect the battery for half an hour or so, and that's it.
If it's a 98-> (I think) then you'll find you'll get improvements as you drive, because it can advance the ignition for performance as well as retard for safety, the earlier ones only retard the ignition. Ragging it probably not neccessary, just a fair bit of full throttle accleration from low revs.

This is the fabled ECU reset - its the same on most Impreza's as well.
In theory yes - it's right - but the ECU will slowly relearn and adjust itself back to the correct paramaters for safe operation.
You will do the reset, drive down the road thinking it goes like **** off a shovel, but all the time the ECU is recoding back to safe levels of advance & knock detection....so within a few days you are probably close to back to square one.
Not that it does ANY harm to do the reset - you can only really benefit - no downsides at all.

But if the fuel allows more advance, the ecu won't retard the Igntion just for fun.
Also note the phase 2 ECUs will run positive as well as negative correction, so in time you might actually have more power (often is the case with Optimimax or using octane booster)

Bad idea just before RR. Cars can det anyway on the rollers because of inadequate airflow. Imagine it retarded -3 on the road like some do and on the rollers it needs to retard more, and the first run it could be running 5 degrees too much timing. Particularly avoid this with an import or P1.
