Apexi Power FC - who can map these ?
#2
these are popular on skylines, and I think , a little misnderstood. I hear it's a piggyback, but also know that it's an all singing all dancing ecu with multi maps, many zones etc.
Have a search for Abbey Motorsport, I know they do a lot with the Power FC with skylines etc. Pretty sure you can get the software or hand controller to adust it yourself.

Hi all,
AlanJack - have you had a Power FC mapped by RC Developments and howdya rate them as a company and what do you think of the power fc ?
Pavlo - Apexi do a number of electronic gizmos, they do an AVC which is basically a sophisticated boost controller, an AFC which is as you say a piggy back fuel computer, and they also do a Power FC which is a complete replacement ECU.
Remapping is expensive, can be screwed up and potentially dangerous to the engine if not done correctly and so I would really appreciate some feedback for recommended tuners.
thanks again

Hi Brett,
First of all where are you? If you are in the northwest then give RBmotorsport a call 01704822848, we specialise in Skylines but have done apexi mapping for allsorts.

Yeah, I thought the power FC was a complete replacement, but you hear so often that it's a piggy back I wondered if it was used for aircon bits and bobs.
The spec list for the Power FC is huge, 3 or more fuel maps, multuple ignition maps, loads more.
Only possible downside is use of MAF, but I like MAF sensors, the only issue is finding someone to put it between your enourmous airfilter and huge turbo
Tell me, is it a loom adapter job, or a plug in thing?
Can you get the software to map it yourself?

Hi Pavlo,
You said "Pretty sure you can get the software or hand controller to adust it yourself" well as a matter of fact i've been thinking of researching into ECU's and engine mapping but it seems to be a bit of a black art(not much information around). Have you had any involvment in this sort of thing or could you point me in the right direction, it'd be interesting to find out how difficult it really is, it seems to me that lack of information is a big stumbling block. Even if I don't start doing the mapping myself I can at least tell if someone who mapped my ECU knows what he's doing.
Any info would be appreciated
Thanks

The power FC is a complete replacement not a piggy back, you can (just about if you know the right people) get the software, but it is all in japanese. The problem is the wiring to connect it to your computer which you cannot get. You can do a lot with the hand controller but you need the software and a computer to do a full map.
Yes you are correct, there isn't much information about how to "do it yourself" and I would agree it is definately a black art that you learn through experience more than anything else (but having a good teacher helps!!!)
Edited to say, It is plug in not a loom adapter job
Lots of skylines use Apexi management so if you go here www.gtr.co.uk/forum (sorry don't know how to make it clickable) they will advise you on were to go to get it mapped. A few of them might even recommend us

I've heard good reviews about the PFC from Skyline, RX7 and 200sx owners, mainly stateside and Oz based, but there is very little info for the Impreza out there. As this is my favoured choice of ECU at present, I did manage to find a resource on the web that could supply the hardware and software required to map it from a laptop in English. It's call FC-Datalogit and can be found here
AlanJack, if you're doing Well Lane again I'd like to have a chat.
Cheers all,
Cube.
