Hi,

You cant generalise about mobil 1 and say its too thin, if you read about viscosity that oils are given you will find out alot..

Mobil 1 0/40 is way to thin, which is what it nearly always was up until they brought out 15/50..

Mobil 1 15/50 is good stuff and the correct viscosity or near to correct..

ive just been looking at the mobil website (for those interested www.mobil.co.uk) about the differences between mobil 1 and mobil racing from their description mobil 1 racing does not seem like the right oil to run in a road car as it is for race engines which a standard scooby wrx is far from a race engine ie top end revs i ran mobil 1 before in a 94 twin turbo supra with 326 bhp standard driven hard for many miles without any problems now i own a sccoby with less power i wonder why the mobil 1 is not good enough as every one here raves about the mobil 1 racing. any comments?

'cos Mobil 1 is way too thin for *any* turbo engine, I stopped using it 5 years ago when I had a 320BHP cossie saph.

Up until then it was always regarded as the "dogs b's"

100% unconvinced with Mobil 1 - 0/40 or 15/50 motorsport.
Still I did get a new engine after using it.

I think it is to easy to blame the oil, i mean they use the stuff in the most highly modified engines in the world..

I think it could be related to having the oil changed and not the actual oil itself...

Plus there are to many other scoob engines blowing up in the same way which dont use mobil oil...

I agree, so that's why its only a coincidence that it had just been serviced and 15/50 Mobil motorsport used.

Like most people I was going to 15/50 because it was supposed to be about the best and the last time I used Mobil 1 (0/40) back when the Legacy Turbos were new out, it was a couple of years before anyone said that was too thin !

Mind you, I've stopped using Optimax as well and use SUL instead. Call me paranoid but I don't want another engine failure

All im thinking is, its only oil, how can it cause major engine failure.... some people dont even change there oil for the whole time they have the car, i dont like these people i have to stress... and there engines still dont blow up even if the oil has been in the car for like 3 years and is like glue..!!

How can 15/50 mobil 1 be the cause of engine failure but motul 15/50 is the mutts nuts, yes i know they may contain different compounds but essentially they are oil...??

It think from all the STi engine failure problems, that it is an underlying problem with the engine itself and just happened to go at that time...

I dont know its all speculation...
