Went to my friendly MOT centre yesterday for my MY98's annual check over with catted downpipe in the boot, as I guessed they would need to fit it to pass it. Imagine my surprise when she passed on emmisions without any cats (both the centre section and downpipe have been replaced with cat-less versions). Will post the actual results of the gas analyser when I remember to bring them in. The guy that did the testing used to work on scooby's and said that if it was hot when it was being tested, with a little bit of fiddling, the results can be below the max levels. I know it is illegal to pass a car without any cats but I did say the they were "friendly".

At least I am safe in the knowledge that I should be able to pass a roadside emissions test.

Just thought I would let people know!

It's not illegal to pass a car with no cats.

The laws specifies max emissions, and think it has to be running at Lambda = 1.

The main reason you need the cat, is it's assume you won't pass without it.

That's even better then! If anyone wants to know, I have a Scorpion back box + centre, a TSL downpipe and a GGR induction Kit. I went for a spin with the mechanic to warm it up, and his statement was that it was a "lot" faster than standard!!!

There are always "friendly" MOT stations - providing rest of your car is safe in other respects, it's not normally a problem for catless cars these days.

Can't you put the decat back on once the car has been passed?

Not that I would condone such a thing.

I don't know if the tests have changed but all imports outside the EU don't need a cat up till 1995. Don't ask me to find a quote on that though
