Currently at dealers being stripped down. Any advice welcome on what to expect with the dreaded phone call from the dealer?
MY99 79k on the clock. FSH. Gear box oil level fine.
Engages 3rd ok (sometimes missing over the last few months when pushing really hard). But when engaged.... suddenly developed bad loud very regular clicking noise coupled with louder click every 2 secs.
New box???? or just bearing relating to 3rd gear (along with 7 hours labour for a rebuild I presume)
Anyone got any experience/ Costs etc??
Thanks

Was almost going to e-mail you direct this morning as a warning as when I was searching previous threads noticed that you had been complaining of problems engaging 3rd over 5,000rpm....
Mine was doing exactly the same then..................BAD Noise!
Still not heard from dealer yet but hopeful of just a rebuild...!

All gears fine apart from 3rd which still works perfectly well but SO noisy it seems like a bearing has given way or a shaft is bent. Hopefully just the syncromesh but who knows...??
Still not heard back from dealer either so costs amounting nicely as the day goes on....!!

Experience? Yup, here I am. Cost, I'll wait for you to tell me. My mechanic friend will be looking at it sometime today.
edit: I'm dreading it too as I can't afford a new gearbox and diff. I'm just hoping that my friend can sort it out cheaper for me.

Yup, but I ignored the problem for a few months as it only happens sometimes and thought it was clutch related. It comes and go and was sometimes a hit and miss thing. But as I thought it went away, I didn't think anything of it. It finally let go after the Ap clutch was installed and played with in Santa Pod. Now all I have to do is wait for my friend to get here and take a look at it and see how much damage was done to it.
edit: are you able to use first and second?
