Stalling problems when hot
When my totally standard MY98 Impreza Turbo is hot and I come up to a junction and dip the clutch, the revs sometimes drop right off and the car nearly stalls. A quick blip of the throttle usually brings the revs back up to the correct idle. Any ideas on what may be causing the problem?
Sounds like a sticky idle speed control valve.
Oil vapour eventually builds up into a sticky mess and stops it rotating freely. It can easily be cleaned by spraying carb cleaner down the air feed pipe, whilst holding the engine around 2,000 rpm.
Better still, take it off and give it a propper clean up on the bench.
