Thumbs up

EVC will get rid of overboost, provided of course that you don't turn the boost up too high It replaces the OEM boost solenoid with an electronically controlled verson. Makes for smoother boost too. Cost is about £400 quid. Oh... It has its own overboost protection too, which is much more pleasant than boost cut!

I think Dawes does similar, but I don't know too much about them.

On my MY98, I was running an EVC IV at 1.22 peak, 1.18 bar held for a year without issue. Car ran well and didn't overboost.

Incidentally, fuel cut was around 1.25 bar.

Beware of FCD's, you will be removing overboost protection. Too much boost goes through and its bye bye engine.

Be safe.... James.

Question

Ok, maybe this should be in electrical as it's prob an electronic device, so move it if needed Mr Mod.

Anyway, as you can tell from my other post, I've got a bit of overboost and was wondering if a boost controller, maybe an HKS EBC or somesuch might be able to cure the problem, and or allow a slight increase of boost.

So, could an EBC do this? What exactly does an EBC do? what else can I do with it (raise boost a bit?)

As you can tell, I'm not exactly knowledgeable on these types of things, so comments please.

Oh, what do they cost as well?

Should also say that car is a MY94 WRX Wagon, as if you lot did not know that already

Ok, just had quick look at HKS EVC (dunno where the B came from in the previous post! I knew it was EVC but guess i thought it was another device) So, I guess i could have one of these.

However, also looked at HKS FCD (fuel cut defender) and from what i can tell the ECU is cutting the fuel due to decting OB, so guess I could just get one of these to increase the fuel cut point. Hmm, doesn't a Dawes Device to a similar thing? so could one not fit one (seem to recall it's not really meant to be put on early cars, or am I wrong?)

So, what to do then?

Markus,

the EVCIV does however have overboost protection which you can set.

If you're in the market for one of these I will be removing mine over the next two/three weeks.

Some FCDs allow you to only raise fuel cut and are safer if used properly.
