well that's two weeks I've been running the cat-less downpipe and I'm chuffed to bits with the sound and performance of the car. Is it worth doing the centre section too ? for the hike in performance (small ? ) will the noise upset my already rattled neighbours.

I still have plans to fit Scoobysport centre section (no funds at present), the main reason is that I have a STi on which has a 'resonator', as far as Im aware this acts as a disturbance to the flow of gasses thus mimicking an 'obstruction'.
Obstruction = slower!
My son (Mole) found a post from wayback where a Mr.P.Croney was talking about being sceptical about the centre making any noticable improvement....after they had fitted one they dynoed the car and found a chunk of torque and found that it produced slightly better high rpm power.
So, Im going to do it.
Slightly louder than res centre, and a bit more than 'slightly' if you have a cat in at the moment
Hope that helps.

Running a decat with PPP I never noticed a marked difference between running the OE catted centre and the STi decatted resonated centre.....so I left the original centre in to be emmissions compliant.
Since then I've done a few other mods - main ones being new turbo and manifold. I fitted a straight through pipe centre last night - boost came in 200rpm earlier, and was much, much stronger
So...if you're planning on doing further mods later on, do it. If not, don't bother. imvho, of course.

It's definately one of those ones that if you you from a catted to straight-through, you don't really notice that much. But then switch back to the catted mid & the engine feels strained, it won't rev as well, etc. etc. The decatted cnetre goes straight back on again!
i fitted a magnex baffled mid section at the weekend and haven't noticed much difference. No increase in sound levels which is what i wanted.
Got the DP to do when i have a free day (the mid-section was 30 minutes). I am a little reassured by the posts suggesting that it is worth doing for future mods as i was beginning to wonder if i'd wasted my money.
After the DP and samco hoses i plan a trip to Dr Banks...

Got the standard MY99 zorst on this now but got the PPP centre section from Ozzy and fitting it this Saturday. So, I'll lose one of the cats but still have the cat in the down pipe.
What does the res do? just keeps the sound down?
Cheers
Rich.

i dont think you will notice much noise diff when doing the mod this way round. you will notice a difference in noise when you put the down pipe on.
i think this is because the cat in the down pipe is muffling the sound alot before it gets to the centre.
when i change the centre on my old car at my old house, the sound had so much bass it used to rattle the neighbours windows(non double glazed)

Thanks for the info,
Well it's made my mind up for me to leave the centre where it is and do some other stuff instead. I'm not going down the mega BHP route so what the car has on it will do for now

Scotsman and RB5-Black, go for de-cat downpipe....if you really feel the need for cats leave the centre in.
You WILL find a vast improvement with just the dp, but to exploit it you really need to change to a 'free flow' system such as anything Jap or the 'others' you see talked about on this bbs.
