Question

My downpipe has started to blow and was wondering which
downpipe you guys/gals would recommend. The car is a 94
Sti so I think it has the big TD05 turbo on it?
Mainly looking for extra performance, value and not too
much extra noise.

Cheers in advance
Dougie

Wink

Go for a Scoobymania Downpipe, its not too intrusive but does give the car a lovely sound from the outside
Most people will probably tell you to go for the scoobysport one, just be different like me and try something new

Dougie,

I've just fitted a TSL DP and centre. Again, it's not loud inside the cabin. My car used to have PPP ECU, std DP, PPP centre and STI backbox. Now with std MY99 ECU, TSL DP, TSL centre and STI backbox it feels just as quick. Worth every penny.

BTW, I live just outside Motherwell so if you want to meet and see for yourself just let me know.

I have not heard anything bad about any of the common downpipes, single or twin dump honestly seems to make no difference.

I agree with John. I don't think any of the downpipes make a noticable increase in cabin noise. Certainly not if you have a non standard backbox. The noise is different though, slightly tinny, slightly wooshy and a noticable sound on overrun/gear change that sounds a bit like a dump valve woosh.
All only really noticable outside the car, as it doesn't penetrate like the sound from backbox.

Performance wise, there might be gains from the larger twin-dump and open neck designs at high power levels.

My Scoobysport one is great for ME, and I'm glad I chose it.

Cool

Scoobysport or similar, i.e. wastegate not blocked off and one big entry cone, tapering down to 2.5".
You could be different, but then again you could also not have the best bang for your buck.

Thanks for the replies guys,
Have to admit I was unsure as to the extra gains from the
twin dump compared to the single dump, looks as tho' there
isnt any. From looking through all the websites I did notice
they are all pretty comparable by price so there cant be much
of a diference between them in power terms.
Are there any that accomodate the heat shield better than others
so u dont have to cut it with tin-snips?

Ps Tony, being different like that can get u arrested
Thanks
Dougie

Dougie,

AFAIK you have to mode the Heathshield with any other non-OEM downpipe. Of course, some smart@rse will prove me wrong, but you have to mod it with all the usual suspects.

Unless your car is very highly tuned, you'll get no noticeable difference between the two designs.

Magnex twin dump - V good quality and price.

On my old scoob (96 - bigger turbo) I got 260 BHP with a full Magnex. Try DRMotorsport.

Hi Dougie,

By highly tuned, I mean FMIC, uprated Turbo, etc.. and well over 300BHP

Haven't managed to get the heatshield back on yet. I've been sent some pics of a modded one, so I'll give it a go tonight.
