Unhappy

Hi All

For the last couple of weeks I have had an intermittent squeak coming from under the car. In the last week this has got gradually more persistent until today I went under the car to investigate.

The problem appears to be with a corroded bracket on the far end of the downpipe connecting it to the gearbox. The bracket is moving around between the pipe and the heatshielding and causing the horrible metal on metal squeak that is driving me mad.
Also while under the car I noticed that another of the donpipe brackets has parted company with the pipe, this one is the one by the drive shaft.
Any repairs I do will need to be done on a reasonable cost basis as I don’t have money to burn at the moment.
So it looks like I could do with a new downpipe and need some questions answering.

1) Would it be worth having these brackets welded back on ?
2) If I change the downpipe, how much am I looking at being charged for having it fitted?
3) Will any downpipes be they std or performance ones fit my MY95 car?
4) I’d quite like a de cat downpipe but can’t be bothered swapping back and to so it will pass it’s MOT, are there any ways around this?
5) Finally anyone got a cheap downpipe they want to sell?

Thanks

Chris

Take the oppertunity to put a de-cat dp on, when it comes to MOT time you can 'borrow' a double catted centre section for the event, there are a couple of companies doing that now.

Hope that helps.

Have a look here for the MOT emissions test results with just the centre section in.
