I thought I’d share this mishap with y’all.
Over the past couple of weeks I had noticed a slight oil leak, but I didn’t pay too much attention to it. After all it would only lose about a teaspoonful per day on my regular 74 mile commute. When I arrived home from work on Thursday, a local kid told me there was oil dripping. Sure enough it was dripping quite badly. By now I was really worried. I crawled under the car and found it to be the oil filter had worked loose. So I tightened it up and cleaned up the mess (cat litter’s great at soaking up oil slicks). Anyway, it took just over three litres to top up so there couldn’t have been much left in the sump. These WRX thingy’s must have very robust engines to run with so little oil. I reckon I was lucky my journey wasn’t much further or it could have been expensive. I hope this is a one off isolated case and doesn’t happen again when I’m on a longer weekend run.
Has anybody experienced a similar problem?
I suppose there’s a moral to this; If you have an oil leak no matter how small, get it seen to right away.
