5th Gear Whine

Question

As the title suggests -my car has started to whine in 5th gear, doesn't do it in any others though. Its an MY00 - any suggestions??

my94 does it only in 5th so your not alone.

I dare say your my94 has a few more miles on it than my my00 though....

And it didn't just start wining overnight. Its accompanied by a nasty noise as the lever mover through to the 5th gear position - it doesn't do that in any other gear either !

Sounds like your bearing is quite flogged out, if it is making noise during the change.

Question

Which bearing is this (I'm not a tech person) its only done 33k miles??? Is it a relatively straight forward job to replace, or is it gearbox out stuff - In which case Subaru Belgium will be getting a call......
