Default CV Boot Replacement - Bugeye

My son has just got hid first car, non-turbo bugeye auto
Getting it ready for MOT, need to replace the front outer CV boot.
Hub is off at a friends having the wheel bearing changed.
Does the driveshaft have to come off and take the inner joint off to change the boot or can I get the CV joint off.
If it's a drive shaft out job then it will be getting a glue on boot.
Any (useful) advice gratefully received :-)
Dave

, but a former colleague (who's also a former Subaru technician) said they can replace just the boot since it's still fairly early. Any experience with dealers (or even OEM shops like Firestone) doing just the boots? I'm not driving it a lot, about 1000-1500 miles in the 2 months I've had it.

the joint can be split off in the car if needs be but fairly simple job to simply remove the shaft and do it on the bench
