Here is a few pics for those wondering..with the engine at least anyway.
First the pistons, in order STI4, UK legacy, MY94 WRX

Legacy cylinder heads., with their ford pinto style followers

WRX heads, with their hydraulic bucket followers ( well, the hole where they are supposed to go anyway )

Who stole my engine????????????????

My DIY downpipe, some bits 2.5" stainless, others mild steel, and quite rusty now Flange cut loviningly with an angle grinder

Std Legacy chargecooler water rad.

MY00 fuel rails + 4 hole STI injectors. These fuel rails dont look as restrictive as earlier ones.

Im sure all those with a slow connection, are well p1ssed off by now

Wink

stevie is there much improvement with the cat removed thinking of doing the same to mine.its registerd 1/8/92 will this mean that i should not have problems with mot.im in two minds whether or not to keep the car but if i do are are there any mods you recomend for the legacy.have you got any pics of the whole car. which by the way could do with some wax oil.
i havent seen the pistons before very interesting design.but they could have done a better job on the sur clip holding in the tappets.

There is definate improvements from removing the cats, Any scooby owner will tell you that. From Sept 92, cats were a legal requirement. So Im OK Jan 92. There aint no cirlips holding the followers on, the camshaft holds them in!! The impreza heads are a much better design than the legacy, no question there..
I doubt there would be much to gain from porting the inlet, The port runners are already quite large,, as is the intake side of the head. Im going to clean up the area around the valve seat on my heads, as there is a few bad casting marks, but I doubt there will be any massive improvements.
Stuff in bits....If only I was so lucky... The legacy is just a play thing, usually for track days etc. It lies in the garden at home most of the time ( hence the rust!! would you beleive last time I took it out, the oil filter was leaking...a hole had rusted through it!, the sump is pretty rusty too. Have another one anyway )
The bad news, is my daily drive 1994 525 tds, has just **** itself. No oil pressure...Anyone got any tech info on the BMW turbodiesel engine?? Subarus are easy, this looks like a nightmare to get at anything. Big cast iron 6 cyl lump of ****
