Default automatic wrx auto problem

Bought the car 3 years ago after covering only 4,000 miles in two years of use, unfortunately gearbox developed a problem.(thumps when put into drive) and is undrivable, car was recovered and has sat in garage ever since. (1 1/2 years).

as you can see it is in my opinion to good to break.......new front struts/ timing belt/ tensioner & water pump/engine/gearbox serviced/ body undersealed were all done on purchase by subaru specialist....... gutted to say the least!

The gearbox.is part no TV1B4MB5AB,4EAT,TIPTRONIC if anyone has one lying about or can anyone recommend an auto gearbox specialist in my area (Sunderland)....

car has done 60,000 miles and is totally rust free...... any thoughts welcome...................like is it worth it!

Don't know much about auto boxes.
How old is the gearbox oil and and filter and is the level right?
I believe oil quality and level are critical to correct operation.

Sold the blob eye which she owned for 15 years, (could no longer manage the clutch!),to buy this always said if anything did go wrong with the auto box it would be problem.
i'm with you john i don't know much about automatics, got it fully serviced oil /filter/& transmission fluid for peace of mind when we got it........ a specialist over the phone said it could be just be the diff.so will just have to see what's gone wrong or find another box.

i,d really like to get it sorted and use it myself .....as i retired this year

Got this low mileage auto wagon to keep her happy..........................fingers crossed..

Congratulations on joining the club of 7 day weekenders. I got there last year. Now I look forward to Mondays when the family go to work/school and I get peace.
If you can get all 4 wheels up on stands, you can check the obvious in more detail. Depends how bad it is. Disconnect both prop shafts and rotated the axles by hand, feeling for problems or roughness. If you can, try turning the gearbox output flanges feeling for problems. Take it out of park first. Don't know if this works though.
Final option is getting someone to run the engine and try the gearbox while you lie under the car. Terrifying to do and make absolutely sure the car is safely supported. May be better to get a garage to do this on a ramp.

Your main problem is that JDM Auto WRX's are few and far between and the box specification TV1B4MB5AB appears to be JDM specific.

Closest in a non JDM RHD WRX Impreza would be TV1B4YN3AB / 5AB of MY03/04 vintage, although not even certain the UK brought in any Auto (Sportshift ) WRX's.

Maybe worth downloading and looking through these..........
