I noticed last night that the exhaust temperature seemed higher than usual and wondered if that might be expected as a consequence of the Dawes (16 psi now) and ITG filter? The colour of the exhaust pipe has lightened from the usual black suggesting a leaner running, which would increase temperatures. No pinking detectable.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Jon

What are the EGTs and where are you measuring them?

Red face

nothing as quantified as that i'm afraid. just a feeling that the system is hotter than it used to be before fitting.
That's not very helpful is it???

What car? Do you have a boost gauge and what's the part throttle boost like? What size is the bleed hole in the dawes?

If you're noticing an exhaust colour change (without using octane-booster ), be v.v.v.v.careful......

Richard,
It's UK MY99 with a boost gauge. Dawes hole is 1.5mm. Part throttle boost can get quite high - towards the 16 psi max held at WOT. I use optimax without any octane booster.

Thanks, Jon

Sounds like part throttle *may* be causing it - but I've never come across such problems before. Maybe check that the 1.5mm hole isn't blocked by oil?

Certainly, you should check your AFR - you could use DeltaDash or a dedicated AFR meter..or a digital voltmeter...or even a dealers select monitor. I'd suggest getting it checked ASAP though - tailpipe changing colour doesn't sound good to me.

Question

Hmmm... i'm worried too now. just been reading some past threads JB referenced elsewhere, and this part-throttle/high boost/high EGT seems to have been noted before.

Perhaps i should wind the boost down a little or just take off the Dawes and wait for the Tek2?

I've got a MY99 with a Dawes set at 16.5 PSI on WOT. John set it up for me and we did a number of runs whilst logging the results on DeltaDash - everything looked just fine.

I've got my log files (which can be viewed with the DeltaDash demo software) if anyone wants them - they were taken in mixed driving conditions after the Dawes was set-up.

I've no other mods.

Richard.
