Default Classic gear linkage problem

Hi folks first post so be gentle

Used these forums for years for help but thought I'd sign up as I'm eventually getting round to sorting my old 93 wrx out.

The car has always suffered from sloppy feeling gear changes and a gear lever that does not return to center ( I assume this will be the spring but yet to investigate).

Any I had a free hour tonight so started digging into the problem. I noticed the gear lever had excess upward movement. so I took the gear surround off to find this

The circlip was just lying on top. Also inside the bucket was a completely destroyed o ring.

For the time being I've just put it back together with the circlip but does anyone know the part number of the seals? And should there be two of them? Also the ball and socket part still has a fair bit of play so would I be better off trying to get a full new assembly?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Mike

Cheers Rig! I've seen that they bushes are the common thing to go. I'll need to get under the car and check them. Although it looks like it might have been upgraded at some point.

Strange thing with mine is... even after putting the ball joint part back into the bucket with the circlip there still seems to be a lot of upward movement like the ball joint it's self is actually worn! It's not the conventional stirring a pot of paint whilst in gear feel.

cheers
