Default which box fits and is better

<<< the MY03 Box<<<<< >>>>the MY97 Box>>>

I need to replace my box in my WRX MY98 limited edition 1/200 released in mica black here in Australia,
I have found two to choose from close by (I live in country Victoria in Australia so far from town)
1st is a 8X-TY752VN6AA for $200 out of a MY98
and
2nd is a 93-TY754VB4AA with short shifter and tailshaft out of a MY03

Will the 03 box fit .....

by MY97 WRX, that implies a JDM car ?

1st Box comes up as UK spec MY98 which would be 3.9 front diff with 1.1:1 drops needing a 3.54 rear

2nd Box comes up as a JDM MY03 with 4.44 diff F/R

neither of those sound correct for your box, but a code for yours would help. If you get the matching rear diff from the vehicle though, it wouldnt matter.

My wrx is a 6/97 model limited edition 1/200 released in mica black here in Australia,
It looks exactly the same and by what I can see and read is the same as the catalunya release in the uk.
It has the electric windows and mirrors, air cond and black 16's

Externally there are many boxes that look the same and they will nearly all bolt into the car.

But you must get the final drive and drop gears correct to match yours.

What is the gearbox code on yours ?

In the UK none of the classic turbo cars were ever called WRX, they were all JDM.

Yours could well be the same as a Catalunya, but you cannot assume.

If it is a proper Australian sold model and not an import, then there is a good chance the 1st box may be ok.

But really you need to be sure.

Either get the code of your existing box, or get the car in the air and determine what rear diff ratio you have.
