Default Help DCCD binding problem

Has anyone come across this problem with there car.

A friend of mine had just bought a 06 Sti and diff is acting like its in lock while turning in reverse.

If the DCCD is in open or handbrake on one click the problem goes away.

Am I right in thinking that this is a faulty sensor causing this problem?

If there was a problem with the diff surely the problem would be there regardless of what setting the DCCD is in.

Sounds to me as if it is just doing its job The setting for auto means that it engages when it thinks it is necessary and is the best setting for general road use. If you set it for stiffness by turning off the auto then it engages, even lightly, all the time. It will click and hop when turning, that tells you it is working normally.

Nothing to fear I think.

Not sure if you realise, which is why you've tried the handbrake, but I think the diff is set to disengage when the handbrake is on to allow handbrake turns on the road.

I did wonder why it goes to open with the handbrake on!

I've tested my 07 Sti and can feel a slight griping sensation while tuning full lock In reverse in auto, But it's no way as bad as my friends 06 Sti, it feels like it's in lock!

Does the 06 Sti have a plate style lsd and 07 sti's have a torsion lsd.
Could this be why or does he have a problem.

We are changing the diff and gear box oil this weekend on both cars, hopefully this helps.

My '56 STI did the same and I was always told this was normal, as you've already discovered setting the diff to open or one click on the handbrake does the job while doing any tight manoeuvres. No harm in an oil change though I'm sure!

It may be they setup the diffs differently on the later hatches as a result of this problem/characteristic?

Check tyres are all the same type and have the same tyre-wear level.
If the car is stiffened in any way - if one of the wheels has less weight/grip on it then it will try to compensate for this by locking the diffs.
It is (as far as I've been told) quite normal; especially if it goes away when you set it to open.

Mine has matching tyres. But my mates 06 has different front to rear.

Did a diff oil change and it's not made any noticeable difference to any of the cars. We used Castrol b373.

Oh well at least mines working fine ;-)
