serious clutch judder
Hi have just had fitted exedy uprated organic clutch with anti judder disc and lightwieght flywheel to my 05 wrx, when pulling away or gearing down am getting considerable judder now im hoping the reputable clutch fitters have done their job right but as I supplied the parts the parts are getting the blame and the fitters say its not them thats at fault....any thoughts anyone

Mine was fairly juddery to start with after having a pink box and lightweight flywheel fitted but it settled down after a couple of hundred miles. It's still a bit so when it's cold but soon feels ok, give it time and it should settle down.

id check that the clutch is genuine and be questioning the quality of the flywheel then.
ive fitted a blur/grey box exedy clutch (from import car parts) along with a used oe flywheel which I wire brushed and checked for flatness and its perfect. no judder atall.

I wouldn't expect issues like that with a pink box, i have a competition clutch (stage4) and it has similar issues but is designed for competition use. There are lots of copy items floating around so unless you bought it from a reputable supplier I would say you might have been tucked up.
Speak with alyn at ASperformance he will source you a clutch you can live with f

Hi Jase,
Good talking to you on the phone.
It goes without saying that the parts we supply are legit, goes without saying (highest ranked clutch sellers on ScoobyNet) and been trading for over 7 years. People are quite right to be cautious though, just a quick glance at ebay tells me there are more fakes being sold on there than there are legitimate ones.
Give the clutch some miles to settle in.
Cheers,
Bob

I always thought new clutch needed bedding in like brake pads sort of thing? On my old 99 I had a new exedy clutch put in (unskimmed flywheel) no judder what so ever the mech who fitted it said just drive easy for 100 mile to bed it in nicely,
New car car, new exedy fresh skimmed flywheel I get judder in 1st un less I'm generous with the revs, Ive got used to it after 600 mile

Parts using friction materials usually need bedding in.
You wouldn't fit a set of performance brake pads and expect "performance" from them right from the start. They would need heat cycling and bedding in, doesn't stop them being performance pads
500-600 miles is typical for clutch bedding in.

Exedy FAQ:
What is the recommended break-in period for high-performance sports clutches?
Break in period should be that of 500 miles of city type driving, double the break in period for highway driving. No aggressive driving. No hole shots or drag launches. Gear changes should be made at 4,000 RPM or less. No speed shifting.

We had a chat about this the other day didn't we?
Being fair, I'd expect a new clutch to bed down before you can really judge. The organic material starts out with a rough surface and ends up smooth, so something must be going on!
Like the man says, give it 500 miles (patience is a virtue).
I bet Mo Farrah beds in his Nikes first, yes?

Did you only remove the Exedy clutch and replace with an AP or did you skim/replace the flywheel also?
AP have numerous total failures and they only sell a small amount compared with Exedy: https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...shattered.html

New std genuine subaru flywheel was fitted with the exedy clutches, first exedy there was something wrong with the centre plate, was replaced with a free replacement but wasn't much better.
Got fed up with the juddering and had it removed and replaced with a ap racing clutch.
This was about 3-4 years ago,I have no part numbers,I'm not naming any suppliers as this is no longer an issue for me
