AP Clutch shattered
Hi all, just wondering if anybody else has seen an AP Racing clutch do this before. I'm not running any serious power only about 300 but i thought they were rated a lot higher than that.

What the hell did you do to it?
Few things I can think of:
5th gear+full throttle+6000rpm+side step clutch. (well, someone had to say it ).
Gearbox locked up at 6000rpm or at 60mph (bits of the diff are still on the M5 somewhere ).
Uneven pressure caused by some problem with the release/alignment, so the disc is at an angle to the cover plate when engaging/disengaging which has caused the straps sheer off due to fatigue.
Someone when fitting the engine/gearbox mated them at an extreme angle and bent/fractured the drive straps, which over time would fail from fatigue (the bits that sheared).
Or its a Fake.

Nope none of the above!!! The only thing I can think of was I parked car over snow for a couple of hours and when I got in and drove it off it was slightly jerky. Got steadily worse over the next days driving (wasn't gunning it) Pulled away from lights normally and it just went
NONE OF IT MAKES SENSE TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same goes for it being damaged during installation.
The drive plates/straps which connect the friction material to the centre of the clutch disc are barely 1mm thick, they are fine for rotational (torsional) stress but they don't like being unevenly or excessively flexed in a lateral direction and will fatigue over time leading to an eventual failure.
Also a fake would use poor quality steel not up to the job, and not be tolerant to heat cycling.

^ Have seen more than a few occasions of an AP clutch having ripped it's centre out:
