Hi guys,

Further to my MAF thread I posted, Ozzy has mentioned you two have done the brake cleaner / carb cleaner fix on a MAF sensor at Knockhill. Can you offer any insights/advice/instructions at all please?

As the other thread says, car is an MY99, standard air system.

Many, many thanks in advance.
Neil.

Neil,

Having witnesded it done (as well as adding my usual sarcastic comments to help them along) I can explain exactly what they did.

You need to remove the whole air filter assembly to get at it properly. Undo some of the hosing that runs across the air filter hose. Undo the jubilee clips holding the large hose in place and remove it. There's a tube underneath going into the hose also - just pull it down to remove.

Then undo the clips holding the air box lid in place. Next disconect the plug for the MAF sensor wiring. You'll also notice a metal bracket that runs in a slot in the air filter lid. Wiggle that out to and the whole air filter lid should lift straight out.

There's 4 bolts holding the MAF housing to the air filter lid. Undo these and remove the lid. That will give you full access to the MAF.

All T-UK (John) and John Banks did was spray loads of cleaner into the MAF (from both ends). Any excess fluid was wiped off and the rest just evaporates.

They also cleaned the air box and tubing to be safe.

Stefan

You can get it in Halfords. The stuff the two John's used was the same Halfords own brand Brake Cleaner. It's in a black can with orange writing.

Don't have it with me otherwise I'd post a pic Unless you wait until 5:30 and I'll post one.

Stefan

Neil,

Do you have access to someone with Deltadash or a Select Monitor? It's the only way to check if the sensors are reporting the correct voltages and behaving normally.

Maybe someone would be willing to swap there's with yours to see if the problem goes away?

What sort of tapping why don't they just replace your MAF sensor? Your car sounded as silky as Subarus ever do to me.

Wink

theres a tapping in the engine
Maybe the pit crew left some bits flapping around inside the engine bay Never thought an air box could go back on upside down AND back to front
