Vent Dump valve ( Barbados Rally)
#1
I am out in Barbados, at the Mo with the rally that has just happened.
(A chap call Paul "downing his sorrows" Borun, wrote of a 97 WRC group A Scooby all the trimings, on the first stage of the first day)
I did ask if there were any spare bits going I could have.
ANYWAY
Does anyone know anything about Vent to Vacume, dump valves?
Can you just bolt one on?
Any engine problems?

Not too sure about vent to vacuum There's vent to atmosphere & recirculating, that I know of, anyway... Recirculating is the standard, vent to atmosphere is the one that goes 'pshhhh', adds pops & bangs & can cause idling problems, although I haven't had any (HKS SQV) & I haven't heard anyone else have any either, except in "I heard from a mate that a mate of his knew someone who..." type thing.

Nom, same here mate. I was told by a hell of a lot of people not to fit one to my car (HKS SQV) well I fitted it because the garage that sold it to me guaranteed that there would be no problems.
That was over two years ago with not one problem.
Look how many people are running VTAs now

Mo,
And you have, hand on heart, been running completely standard engine management all that time? If you run, for example, a Link ECU, then the MAF sensor is no longer used to "weigh" air going into the engine, so a vent-to-atmosphere bov will not affect running as it can do in a car with a MAF based ECU fitted, such as the standard JECS unit.

No sorry I should've said, I've been running a Unichip. But since this retains the MAF surely this hearsay (IMHO) should apply?

Just thought to add (which may be not quite right as I'm no expert here!) - there should never be any fueling problems at tick-over, unless the BOV is leaking - it's just a recirculating valve leaks in a MAF-friendly way. There shouldn't be any VTAing unless the pressure needs to be dumped!
