Just purchased an Alfa 156 Selespeed (don't worry still got the Scoob!) for the daily commute. Having looked at the complexity of the gearbox - and considering Alfa's "questionable" reputation for reliability I have decided to invest in a top drawer warranty.

Has anybody been down this road before, and can provide experiences good or bad?

I am currently looking at a policy from Warranty Wise. It costs £500 for a two year policy, which includes being able to take it to a main dealer for repairs (subject to an hourly labour limit of £50). Seems to cover most things, and is underwritten by NIG Skandia who I have at least heard of. It would also appear to be connected in some way to Ford Motor Company, which again is reassuring.

Cheers for any comment / advice.

PS - You can get an online quote at warranty wise through the Autotrader website.

Have a look at this month's which as they do a report into 3rd party waranties for cars I believe.

Noticed it, but not read it, as currently of no interest to me, so exact content could differ slightly!

Hi Dales: Scoob & Alfa 156 - what an excellent team ! I should know as we have a Scoob and a 156 s/wagon. We bought the Alfa from Trade Sales and were 'persuaded' to buy an extended warranty. I think it too is backed by Skandia. The only thing that concerned me when I read the small print was a statement about service intervals - every 5000 miles or 6 months I think. But then there was something like 'or in accordance with the manufacturer's schedule'. So I would clarify this point with them beforehand if I were you - it would be quite unreasonable to have to service an Alfa this frequently when the standard interval is 12000 miles/annually. I'd be interested to know what they say. The Alfa is nearly a year old and so about to go into the extended warranty - I've got my fingers crossed !

How do you find the Alfa ? We love ours (2.0 Veloce) in most respects but I find the suspension far too soft for a 'sporty' car and can't quite get the driving position ideal.
