Tuners Beware!
Had a chargeback on a credit card transaction today for over £3k. The order was collected by a couple of Asians at our unit.
Police are involved, but the "perpitrators" may not be too difficult to spot out there.
I'd be grateful if either anyone spots a car with these parts fitted, particularly any of you tuners out there, or if anyone gets offered them individually to get in touch with us direct?
The parts involved in the order were a Forced Performance "FP Red" Turbo, Aeromotive FPR, 800CC new Age injectors, Hyperflow Monster FMIC and a Turbo intake pipe, allegedly all to go onto a new age STi.
These are hardly run of the mill items, so our suspicion is that they're going to be fitted to a specific car?
Any information leading to tracking down the parts or perpitrators will be greatly appreciated.
Cardholder is registered on College Road London (SE21) in case anyone spots a car with these mod's in that area?

The parts are distinctive so there is a possibility a Scooby Specialist will clock them when asked to fit the bits but there is a good chance the fitting could be done by the thieves themselves or any back street garage.
However the nature of the bits dictate that a specialist mapper may be needed to get the best out of them and as there are a limitted number of mappers in the Scooby Community I would suggest you circulate all mappers individually, starting with those that are Ecutek approved or can break into the New Age ECU.
Good luck in tracking them down. 3K is a BIG hit. The Saudis have the right idea for this sort of scum. Personally I would favour crucifiiction, only for an hour or two, of course, well for the first conviction anyway..

Mike - gutted to hear this, we got stung by an asian bloke (who was on posting Scoobynet at the time) last year for £2700 (along with 4 other Scooby traders, names known but I wont reveal who - not my place to do so).
I gave statements to / had meetings with CID and 2 different police forces to no avail. The police had a suspect but the CPS decided there was not enough evidence to proceed.
Had another the same year for £600 and successfully prosecuted him.
Give me just 10 minutes with the scum that do this......
For anyone thats interested, I'd be more than happy to start a new forum for trade members only to discuss ways to combat this. We have lots of systems in place now, which (touch wood) save us £££ every week. Happy to share this info with other traders.

Sad thing that people can still get away with this..
The merchant services really should offer some sort of protection, or maybe get customers to bring some sort of ID or address confirmation with them when collecting, ensuring that it matches the credit card details....
I know of many people who only send to the registered address and ask for proof of address when customers collect big orders regardless of who the customer is just to avoid big chargebacks like this...

As the first sticky post in this section it is well known that we too have been had by an Asian gang. As far as l know the two brothers involved were nicked, not just for my problem but over a longer term for other such scams.
They were found on S'net and banned at the time, but maybe they are back.
Tough luck Mike!! , The money loss is a problem, but the thought that you have been taken by this sort of scum is the longer term aggravation in my opinion. That they have seen fit how to do you. Really P*sses me off that.
If we support each other they'll turn up for sure. Too late to do too much now, but they'll get caught sometime.
Meantime we'll all keep our ears and eyes open down here.

the last lot of asians that tried to get one up on us all got arrested!!! they turned up in the van to collect a load of body panels that they had tried to pay for with 3 different stolen credit cards, as soon as they were in the yard the plain clothes coppers in the showroom gave the order and a stickered up cop car blocked the gates and it was just a rush of bodys down to the parts department and they carted 3 off in handcuffs!

Neil - sounds good, I spoke with another scooby trader yesterday who had suffered the same fate - they lost circa £5K in one go
The fact that I spent half an hour on the phone advising these 'chaps' on which parts to steal is somewhat annoying to say the least! No comeback from the police as yet, can't say I'm expecting any either.
*Un-ink* - I believe the guy said the car was an import '04 STi, apparently he had already blown it up twice. I guess he will be looking for a tuner...
Jase.

I would have thought it unlikely to be College Road Se21 - that's mainly a private road that runs through the middle of a big nobby public school - Dulwich College. Some houses on that road, but fairly expensive ones ,although the south end of it does run into Crystal Palace which is much less posh.
Not that far from me ( or un -ink I see) so it wouldn't be hard to drive past and see if a new age 04 sti is hanging around (with a new FMIC)?

Most unlikely that the car will be there. That is just the address of the poor sod whose card was cloned.
In our case the engine was bought by " Ali something-or-other " , turned out to be Mrs ALIson somebody-or-other who didn't even know what a Subaru was......
Cheeky buggers even bought a railway ticket on her card from Manchester to Stoke on Trent which is where they were [ are? ] based.

There's some sick people out there. I agree with the forum for the traders (I aint no trader), anything that is going to stop people getting things that they have technically stolen should be done. I also agree with asking for I.D which included the person who is purchasing the good's address on. They should have photo I.D e.g Passport and something to do with their home and their car on. At least that way you've got the proof of where they live and what type of motor their driving. You'd know something was up if they started buying stuff for an Evo but were knocking about in an Impreza!!!! Sorry to the people that have already been hit by the c**ts that are doing this.

I know that it could be difficult, but might it not help traders to insist that on orders of this size, you must collect in person. At that time simple take a picture of the purchaser. Or laise with like traders to arrange collection from (close to the purchaser address) there premises and again take a picture of the person with proof of identity, ie passport / driving licence. Better to loss the order than £3000 and all the hassel. This guy is such a ******* ******* because it puts up the prices for everyone else.

if it was a stolen card, the bank should pay the costs, not the seller!!!!!, or the cardholder herself, if she didnt report the stolen / lost card....

It could have been a cloned card in which case she would have had no idea until her bill came though, but it would be a good idea for registered tuners/businesses to have their own forum to discuss matters like this
