Got to say thanks to Len at Subaru4U http://www.subaru4you.co.uk/ in Newbury for helping me out today. 
Car had developed an occasional fuel cut - I could be trundling along and it suddenly cut the power & trys to throw me through the windscreen, then carries on as if nothing happened.
Visited Len today and we took the car out for a run. At 4000 rpm whilst accelerating - bang! - felt like we hit a brick wall.
Turns out the car was boosting to nearly 1.5 bar. He thought I'd had it mapped - nope, it's the standard ECU (MY98). He fitted a restrictor in the pipe from the manifold, cleaned the solenoid and associated pipes, and it's boosting to 1.1 now with no brick wall. No more teeth marks in the steering wheel!
The cost of all this? - "ah, sort it out next time you're in!"
Like I said - top man; can't recommend him enough.
