Post Cheam Motors (Epsom)

Hey all,

Just got back from taking my car to Cheam Motors, Epsom.

My car went in for a diagnostics test due to the "malfunction light" coming on and the car making a ticking type noise on tick over or if the car was at a slight angle.

After it was put through on a diagnostic test I was told that the car was on running on 3 cylinders and with a slight miss-fire.

I was then asked to go out for a test drive with an engineer (Gary) who was a really nice guy. He said my car was very sluggish and the engine seemed heavy. He noticed the noise that I was questioning and said that it didn't sound right at all.

My car is going to be booked in soon to have all the relevant checks made. I wanted to know if anyone else has taken there car there and what type of service they endured as my first reaction to there customer service and general approach was very professional and helpful.

Whilst I am at it, has anyone else had the problem with the noise which sounds like you have a small stone in your tyre? I have check but cannot seem to find where the noise is coming from?

Any help on the above will be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

I used Cheam for my last two Imprezas and probably my current Forester.

Gary is a top guy, and I happily entrusted him with my 350bhp car!!

Just don't get talking to Jim (Parts Manager) as you may leave with a much lighter wallet!!

Agree with Andy - they come very highly recommended. Both my Scoobs came from Cheam Motors. They have a lot of experience with Impreza's, so take their advice.

Andy's point about Jim is also very well made!

ticking sounds like one of your spark plug leads or coil is earthing somewhere.

Thanks for the reply's guys.

I am just waiting for a phone call from them now for her to go in and be checked out.
I hope it's nothing to serious. This morning I was dropping my cousin off to school and when I was sat at a set of lights the car's revs went up to 3.5k without me touching the accelerator pedal??? And when I got the home the "malfunction light" was flashing whilst the engine was almost cutting out then it stopped flashing and the car went back to normal tick over revs.

Fingers crossed

Steve

I'm not 100% sure? I'm waiting for it to go in still.

Or have I missed something? Like I said, I was told yesterday that it was running on 3 and not 4 with a slight misfire.

I wasn't told that I shouldn't drive the car. Do you think it is a wise move?

I would have thought if your car was running on 3 cylinders that would be a very big misfire.I was not happy the way i was treated at cheam motors, all over wiper blades on a new car.JASON

I've punted that car around the Fairfield roundabout in Croydon more than once

I think that Steve's question has a lot more to do with Cheam's technical abilities and not a disagreement over wiper blades. I've always found them outstanding - honest & helpful. I would not have any hesitation in accepting their advice - I'd encourage you to do the same. Your car is obviously not right. I would get it back into them ASAP.

hello I have been using cheam motors for about 6 years, Garys one of the better ones as 2 years ago I had a similar problem with a miss fire on number 3 and it turned out to be my ht lead coming out of ignition pack and earthing on to the throtle body, Have you checked your leads are not touching the throtle body?

seems funny you go in and they do a diagnostics test don't tell you whats bringing the light on and need a test drive to determine it's running on 3 and they are happy to let you drive around like this, seems poor to me i wouldn't be happy with that type of service personally.

My car goes in on the 17th (that's the nearest it can be booked in). So fingers crossed.

I don't get a courtesy car as I am below the age of 25 which is a bummer. I hear the call of my Mum coming to my rescue that day.

I'm taking it easy until it does go in and I may even not use it at all for a couple of days to be on the safe side.
