Brake Fluid - Urgent
Hi All..
I will be fitting my new 4 POT brembo convertion to MY98, with 335mm discs.
Have been advised not to use DOT 4..and to use DOT 5.1
Can anyone recomend any other brake fluid for me to use...
I have till 1:30PM today otherwise i will be ordering the following:
Ferodo Dot 5.1 Fluid - 500ml costing £10.
I am based in east london and would not mind collecting..

With respect, £21 for 500ml is when you can pop into Halfords and buy their own DOT5.1 (probably Comma??) or Castrol Super Response DOT4 which (according to them) exceeds performance of 5.1 If you live more than 10 quids worth of petrol away from a car store of course you're stuck!
If you're going to bleed out the original fluid, you'll need more than 500ml?

I have been told that Dot 5.1 loses it effectiveness over a few months of use as it is more hydroscopic & therefore lowers itself to a wet boiling point below that of a dot 4 after a very short period of time. This means it has to be flushed regularly (every few months) & so Dot 4 is the best choice for fast road / occasional track use.

you've got your wires crossed slightly there...............dot5.1 is specifically manufactured for certain ABS systems (not Subaru) to remain "less" hydroscopic than other fluids............however, it doesn't always work that it has a better temp rating!!
