Question Distinctive Cars York

Hello

first post on this forum so play nice pls

I'm looking at getting a WRX Import and am thinking of ordering it through Distinctive Cars York aka http://www.japaneseimportspecialists.co.uk/

Has anybody on here used them or know anything about them??

Or alternatively is there somewhere else in or around Leeds that you think would be better for getting an import to order??

They seem to offer a good service for reasonable price just want to be sure though.

TIA

thanks for the offer, funnily enough I was actually looking at your car earlier today and I have to say I do like it and was tempted but the thing is I really have my heart set on a lower mileage one, sorry mate.

Must agree with Mo there re milage/history. I was lucky enough to get a July 96WRX with about 85k (kilometers) = low 50k's? (miles) but they're rare. Mo's looks like a really nice example at a very good price. Well worth a look at anyway I'd say.

Funny you should say that, I was passing there yesterday and popped in. `Very` overpriced and a little tatty when you looked closer.

i know i don't know why people go there to get cars from them they are very tatty and cheap repair jobs. the excuse they use with many people is that the car is fine just a bit of wethering etc on the ship etc and people often buy into it, don't know why!

Might be because a lot of people are weary when buying a performance car privately. They feel safer with a dealer. I can understand them a little but you only get a three month warranty (not covering everything) and they're usually well overpriced. I bought mine with no mot, no tax, no log book, no reg number, without driving it and needing a maf sensor. But I thought it was worth it and after sorting it out it's better than I ever thought it would be. Sometimes you gotta take the odd chance.

Thanks for the feed back guys I appreciate it.

Stif, I hear what you're saying I wouldn't be putting much faith in the 3 month warranty if I did get one from a dealer, those warranties are generally full of little loopholes anyway, the thing that attracts me to going with an importer is being able get one to order, spec I want, colour I want etc and no hassle (maybe I'm just a lazy bastid )

MBScooby, glad to hear some positive feedback about Distinctive, would you consider getting an import from them then??

ps. big shout out to mo,s scoobymonster for bringing his car round today to show me and giving me some pointers on scoobies, he's a top geezer and 1 of you lot should buy his car asap so he can get that house (just slip that tenner through my door later Mo)

well I was originally looking at a WRX but seems like you get a fair bit more for not much more money if you go for an STI, so I appear to be looking for an STI and I'd be quite happy for it to be standard spec and I've got a maximum budget of £7k.

Do you think your mate would be able to help?

Thumbs up

My brother bought a 97 UK Impreza from Distinctive cars when they were just getting there feet off the ground. Good price, good trade in price, excellent service. Still has the car and has had no problem in 18 months of ownership.

They had some very nice imports at TOTB III aswell.

Try before you buy!? Maybe they have similar cars in at the mo.

Cheers for that Mav good to hear some positive feedback.

Well I've been over to Distinctive Cars today and I have to say I was impressed, they are in the middle of moving premises so things are kind of a bit all over the place at the moment though.

Unfortunately they haven't got any MY96's at the moment but had look at a few of the other cars to get an idea of the quality. They did have a couple of MY93's, one of which is a Type RA and went for a spin in that, although I couldn't drive it myself cos no insurance , very short gear ratios but certainly goes well .

Overall they seemed genuine and really seemed to care about what they do and they know their stuff so I may go with them, not decided yet though .

Right I'm off now to see if I can get a test drive in one at a local dealer .
