Window Tinting?
Does anyone know the law regarding window tinting, and can anyone recommend someone to carry out the work?
Anywhere in the Leeds or York area would be best.
Cheers.

Just called Cappucino Tints, apparently you can tint the drivers and passenger front windows but not black. He expects the fuss to die down and revert back to how it used to be.
Thanks for the advise Alan.

You dont want it black or you'll be lowering the windows every time you pull out of a junction.
Do Cappuccino do the light reactive tints just light the specks people are wearing?

Muppet in an X5 Killed a biker last year and that was the catalyst for the Gov ruling...
Also the company that did the tints are legaly responcible if they do it...

Having a black car means that my windows are already lightly smoked, but the law dictates that a certain percentage of light should be allowed in to the car through windows, the guy at Cappucino Tints was aware of this and said he'd be able to monitor if i was eligable for further darkening or not.
He was also aware he would be liable for any illegal tints, so it should be OK.
Thanks for the concern though, I agree with the blacked out thing, very impractical.

The loading is double for the back than I pay for my exhaust!!!
I removed my fronts when they changed the legislation - do a search - YOU MUST DECLARE THEM - I save 10% on my premium by removing them.
Crazy,
Brian

I think most tinting companies will do the fronts for cash in hand ie - no receipt.
can anyone tell me what the police do they decide your fron tints are too dark? eg - fine? points? or just ordered to remove?

You cannot tint the front windscreen, however you ARE allowed to tint the front side windows HOWEVER they must allow i believe 70% light through.

Where I live the BiB just make people take them off.
I remember some time ago a problem with the rally boys, they put silver film on their rear windows and it did not meet regs as the surface area of glass for the side windows has to be above a certain level but as they put silver film over the glass this reduced this figure. Any way to get round it they left one corner of the window plain glass lol.
Just to add, if you tint your windows expect more attention from the BiB, not justified perhaps but expect it!

"As of 1st January 2004, Section 32 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations bans all tinted films from being fitted to windows forward of the B-Post on any vehicle that is to be driven on UK roads."
the law previously stated a light transmission level for front glass... however this proved impossible to uphold and hence the ligislation was changed... Simple, no need for plod with light meter and no arguments...
if stopped, As far as i'm aware you would be told to remove any film, and given a week to do so... then its fine time... I asked my mum who works @ plod central, who asked a traffic bod and thats what he said...
he also said if you were involved in a RTA and caused an accident they would throw the book at you... The would take a very dim view of it indeed...forgive the pun

I got stopped last night and the w*nker did a test on my front side windows and i only got a 17.3 light result where i needed 70.
I told him that i was in a rush and we got a phone call of the babysitter as our son was having an asmma attack but he ignored us and we spent 15 mins ripping the film off. Man it felt like someone was taking a key to the sided of my car i can tell ya.
Dazza's-STi you are right, the regulation has changed because of an incident of a car with window tints killing someone on a bike.
However i personally think its a load of old sh*te as your not telling me that if the car had no tints then the car would of not hit the motorcycle?
Accidents happen on a daily basis, some are fatal and im sure there have been more accidents with cars hitting motorcycles that have NO TINTS but thats ok i guess.
Trouble is with our country and others is that we are always looking for a cause or someone or something to blame....
