Question

Its that time im afraid... do i keep the warrenty etc... so i have a choice...

Let the dealer do the service and extend the warrenty OR go to a specialist and get some mods!

Anyone had a 3 year/30k service done and how much did it cost.

Is it a biggy like the 45k was on the old model?

30k service is same as the old 30k service. Its a main one where all the oils get changed as well as plugs and anti freeze. the timing belt does not get changed yet for another two services [annual].

I had the 30 000 miles done at 2 years

It cost about £410. The car was the better for it. Changes all the fluids, filters and plugs.

Plugs dont get changed unless you ask them too, they are a 60,000 mile item the same as the cambelt.
Gearbox oil, diff oil, coolant, pollen filter, oil + Filter, check all brakes.

I had my 2 yearly service done at Stan Palmers. Cost me £290ish and included a plug change. I supplied the engine oil (add another £30) and the brake fluid didn't need changed (add £10).

I would also recommend getting the MOT done before the three year time limit, and then you can get any faults fixed under warranty. You will only have 12 months MOT from the date of the test rather than from the end of year three, but worth it IMHO.

My 30k service was just over £400, but the car did feel noticeably better afterwards- & I'm sure it wasn't just the usual placebo effect

Thumbs down

I had a 30000 service done by Town & Country in Perth in May on my MY01 WRX, it cost over £700. I'm not alone and a mate has his done
by T&C in Aberdeen - nearly £800. My service cost included a wheel gyometry set up at £70, seems they recommend it as I had track & alignment checked elsewhere but had really bad uneven front tyre wear which the above fixed.

I have queried the cost wtih T&C and Subaru UK, no respomse.
Just as a comparison I know a man with a '99 Porsche Carrera 4 30000 service £260 by Porsche main dealer!

Great car but Subaru Uk look set to loose all customer faith (and goodwill) by charging what they do. So the question is, who in the Aberdeen area are worthy of my cash outwith the franchised rip off to provide good quality work on service?

Also does anybody know of a good body shop as the wafer thin quater panel has a bad case of supermarket trolley rash.

Andy that's taking the pi55

Mine cost about 400 quid without the tracking check (I've not got wear probs), so where's the other 230 quid gone?

BTW mine had all the filters, oils and spark plugs replaced. If it would help you can have a copy of my invoice to see what's been done and compare it against yours.

For 700 quid I'd expect a new timimg belt at least.

Oh and I live in the expensive south as well

Nigel,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like we are being humped by what are supposed to be one of the best UK dealerships - according to Sub UK.

For info I was charged £353 for labour, including this little gem, £74.25 for Enviornmental disposal (I can dump this stuff at my local recylcle place for free and presume most others can too?)

Parts included £100.00 + Vat for front brake pads.

I can't do much now about what has happened to me but would caution all of you before using main dealer services. Make sure you know exactly what you're going to be billed for before the work starts.

It seems the small family dealerships on whom much of the good service and customer satisfaction history is based are being removed and the large chrome, tiles and glass merchants are the future. Suppose all this has to be paid for somehow and for the warranty period atleast, we're sitting targets.

Andy,

I didn't need brakes, wifey drives the car most of the time

Labour charge was £182, parts £155, sundries £6. My environmental charge was £3.50. (add vat to all of these) Sounds like you got stung, how about complaining to trading standards?
