5G? pfft.

I can't even get 3G round here
Oh well, 100MB cable broadband is nothing to sniff at.

Anyhoo. The rush? Well did you know that soon FM radio will switch to digital? That may mean some fresh frequencies are up for grabs which the government can put out to tender. Kerching!

It's not only the downloads but the upload speed, I connect my ipad and iPhone to my nas drive at home and find even photos can take a while with slow broadband, cable gives me 120mb down and 10mb up, so is great especially when multiple devices share the connection and hd movies take some bandwidth

Faster broadband has been great for us

We typically have 8 or 9 Internet devices connected at any one time - with 3 or 4 actually consuming web services

I work from home a lot too (although the speeds where never that bad during the working day)

The killer times where Eve's and weekends - youtube was simply an aspiration

Now, never ever have a problem

Doesn't someone need to do some maths here?

* Speeds of up to 1gbps
* 800-megabyte movie file downloaded in less than one second

800*8 in one second is 1.6Gb/s and that assumes no protocol overhead. A movie at 800MB will already be compressed so I could argue that I can download the same in 1 sec now, I'll just compress the life out of it. Oh and it only takes 10 people to be sharing your 5G cell and it's no quicker than your lovely 100Mbps connection, and share it with 500 people and it's no quicker than your 2Mbps connection.

Is it obvious I hate these stupid headline 'facts' people quote

My brother has a Million quid house in hebden bridge up on the tops in Coldon, His BB speed is wait for it......512k

My BB speed in my Mid terrace is 120MB, I find it practically Impossible to function at his house, its a chuffing nightmare ( im am in IT though ) so the Internet to me is Important.

I wouldn't want to live where he does, it would be crap for me, My family revolves around Internet Usage, as probably most do now.

In my brother defence he is a Pro Mountain Biker and rock climber, so it doesn't effect him really.

But good BB speeds do effect your house prices more nowadays.

I suppose its all down to your hobbies and interests, as I type this Im leeching listening to Spotify and working.

mega

I still can't see how we will get left behind?
As it stands we have 100mb+ available. If that was rolled out across the country for all to use, is that not more than enough?
800mb on 100mb connection is 8 seconds to download???

Closer to 80 secs, general rule of thumb is whatever Mb providers quote is mbits so someone on a so called 25mb line will actually download more or less at 2.5megabytes a second.

So 100mb is still massively fast.
I'm yet to understand why we need hyper BB to keep up with the rest of the world?

Ultra-fast 5G broadband to download a film in less than ONE SECOND

So that means in under a second your line will be under traffic management

I remember back in the days of heavy Warez and FlashFXPing, Sweden I think had the provider BBB, early 90s this and they already had 100mb and as the years went by 95ish they already had GIG to the house.

Just shows how far behind we actually are...

I agree though 100mb is enough for most, its only the true 3d BlueRays at 50gig that would prive lengthy, but then again why would u bother. 720P is enough for any man.
