Default New build PC for 13 year old

My 13 year old son wants to build his own PC ( with a little guidance from me) . Mainly it will be for gaming / school homework/ interweb. If anyone can offer any advice I would be grateful . I have a budget of £600 and it will be a Xmas gift so I probably need to start ordering stuff around now.

.
Thanks Ian

Overclockers do barebone systems which allow you to spec what you want into them, starting at about 70 quid plus the rest of the components, not a bad place to start imho.

Some key questions:

Do you want self-build or someone to do it for you?
Do you also need keyboard/mouse/monitor?
Is there a TV in his room he can make use of already?
Do you need to include a Windows license in that cost?
Are there any specific capabilities you need?

Excellent in my experience, if you buy a build to order system though that can take them 2-3 days to assemble and test.

Avoid AMD for gaming right now, the equivalent intel is netter and overclocks very easily if he is an enthusiast.

Graphics is budget driven really, Nvidia generally more reliable in my experience however the latest generation of AMD cards are hard to ignore and the price is good right now. (R9 280's are turning out some nice benchmarks as are the GTX 770 nvidias both at a good price/performance point).

This might be a good starting point for a specification then:

You could possibly also drop out the SSD and perhaps bump the GFX up to a 770, but even the 760 is going to be pretty darn storming, and when you've spent less than £200 on a GFX card you care a lot less about the idea of replacing it in a couple of years.

It maybe that I'm not in the most forgiving of moods but I am removing every single off topic/bitchy/trolling post on this thread.

The OP expressly said he wanted advice on BUILDING a PC. Its a honest question, and to be frank, I'm sick of threads where a genuine question is asked for it only to be degenerated and spoilt by the usual curlprit. I'll put this bluntly: If nobody can give the the OP advice then don't post on this thread.

Maybe this is something the mods should have done long before now, but I'm personally calling time on this. So ignore this post or make smart-alec comments at your peril.

(PS. Sorry to the genuine users on here getting their replies deleted - but as they were inreply to the initial trolling, they were delted to get teh thread back on topic; Feel free to put that debate in a dedicated thread if you wish).

If that were me and i had £600 to spend i'd look at buying 2nd hand, you can get some good deals if you look around. You can pick up £1k+ builds that people have built fairly recently but they want to move onto something else.

As an example, this person is asking £625 for this build, you'd get that for your £600 budget or slightly less.

I don't know the person selling it, i just came across it when having a look around.
