Default The new Mac Pro's are a bargain

Someone on Reddit did the math.

All that and it's not in a ditch donkey of a box that needs it's own power station and soundproof room.

Haha, did you write that Jack? Most of the follow up points shoot him down in flames, and they are Mac users!

I have no doubt it's a good machine, and I actually quite like the look, but it's hardly value for money!

There was a new article that states it would be £11,000 for an IBM, I Built it Myself. You'd love a read of that.

Someone needs to spend less on pointless computers, and more on decent shirts. You might get a girlfriend then

A machine aimed at those in the creative industries - photographers and those with a need to render video and it comes without a card slot????

Worth every penny if you like form over function.

No good to me, I have too many things that require a 9 pin serial connector!!!

This whole math thing depends on the AMD Gfx cards being silly money, which they are right now. The GFX cards will fall in price like a stone making the comparative price for the Mac very expensive very quickly.

Stick a couple of Quadro K5000's in instead of the Firepros and you can save $3000 and outperform them in a professional environment in everything bar wireframe.

I don't think that one card covers the whole math thing. What about the bits you can't buy? And lets not forget health and safety, yours will probably get a bit hot if it has to match the single fan design, that really performs.

Oh and I want it now, not once you've managed to Hackintoss it.

I've been looking for a machine that could match my old IBM server for value, maybe this is it. That one lasted an easy ten years and was about the same price, probably more. That didn't have a card reader either, perfect.

Er it covers the math point of your original post, I will quote "the new mac pros are a bargain"

Well they are far from a bargain unless you want a mac pro to that spec, few people are gonna go an buy a $5-10,000 machine to surf the web or word process. Own GFX design consultancy, knock yourself out.

Whilst it's an intriguing design, the price does put me completely off. For what I use it for (in a professional environment - multi-channel audio), I doubt it would ever pay for itself, as I would also be chasing the depreciation. (or that's how I'm justifying not buying one! )

But no doubt, it's a capable machine. Won't change the fact that haters are going to hate.

I'm hoping for huge depreciation, but it hasn't happened before.
