I'm considering getting an ipad but its a bit confusing with so many versions out there, can someone put down a list of the models in date order if poss, which do you recommend ? As an example is the latest version a lot better than the previous version, screen quality etc and are they worth the extra ? What difference does the air version have ?

You're right Rob, Android tablets just don't have the interest of developers, the only advantage is they're cheap.
iPad 2 is still a good machine, non retina display, not quite as fast. iPad 3 is an iPad 4 with the old style connector, fast and great graphics. iPad Air is four times as fast as the iPad 4! Same size screen but the body is smaller, lighter and thinner.
I have the 2 and still use it more than I should.

If I was to buy another one for myself I would buy the new ipad mini retina. I think its a good size and my ipad mini is much lighter than my missus or my daughters proper sized ipads which for me makes it easier to hold and use. I would get in quick if your getting one for chrimbo as I bet they will be hard to get hold of?

iPad - 04/2010
iPad 2 - 03/2011
New iPad - 03/2012
New new iPad - 11/2012
iPad mini - 11/2012
iPad Mini with Retina - 11/2013
iPad Air - 11/2013
iPad 2 is still expensive at £329 for an aging device when the new iPad Air is £399. To be honest, the differences between the latest iPad and Android is all down to your own preference of the OS. Both have great app stores and slick interface, if you have an iPhone, get an iPad, if you have an Android phone get an Android tablet.

Depends what you want to do I suppose. I just use my ipad for email and internet surfing, may watch the occasional movie and use kindle on it. I am sure an android tablet would do all this too.

The main uses will be browsing, email and i'll also want to load XBMC onto it and do some streaming. Just something i can use lying on the sofa or bed to save firing up the pc, also i like the portability of them as i travel a bit during the year and it would be ideal to take with me.

Ive just been looking at some reviews on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, it looks very good. With me already being an Android user i'd be comfy with it straight away, also like the Samsung Phones you can add extra memory as well via a memory card which you can't on the ipad. Also the 16.9 screen would be far better for me as i'd be watching the odd movie and doing a bit of streaming, movies just looks a bit odd on the ipad with a 4 x 3 ratio and the black bars.
The ipad is obviously excellent, just need to finally work out which is the better all round one for myself.

My advise would be stick to one OS, I'm now totally Apple based, phone, mac & iPad(s) however my advise would still be to stick to one os and unless you are going all the way, e.g phone as well - stick to android, plus android devices are generally higher specification than apple for the same price.
