fibre optic cable does not get rolled out to your vilage mate
it only goes to the nearest exchange and then you just get a different box
that reads the signal through your standard phone line and hey presto you got fibre

Not technically the exchange they put fiber cabs (DSLAM) in as you're on FTTC

(Fibre.to.the.cab)

Have you checked if your county\council have signed any agreement with BT for fibre rollout?

Devon and Somerset have, for example, and you can see the progress here http://www.connectingdevonandsomerse...here-and-when/

Even the small exchanges are planned to be activated. My father in law lives in a tiny village with 1Mbit broadband but his exchange is showing as Under Evaluation\Planning

I really hate this. Instead of installing fibre broadband to existing relatively fast areas, why the **** don't they get the rest of the country up to decent speeds? Oh poor you with your 12-20mbs download speeds, lets upgrade to 100mbs....

Where I live I get 1.3mbs and have to wait for pages to load. This is the case for most quieter country villages from what I've gathered. I know there's the costs involved, but this fibre optic broadband isn't exactly cheap to install either?? Is it all about bragging rights these days with companies? Company X has installed fibre optic achieving 130mbs whereas company Y can only install 80mbs? How about they focus on all the countryside and villages instead of the ******* towns and cities?
