Have got the ADSL Freeserve set up, but I need to connect 2 PCs.
I have heard that a USB switch with the 2 PCs upstream and the ADSL modem downstream will be OK.
Anyone have any experience of which switch is OK?
Are there any odd set up changes that I need to know about?
Is it easier or cheaper to go for a 2 separate modems?

Dont think it will work because the modem doesnt do NAT. To make such a thing work you will need a router such as the Dlink DSL-504 (very good) As the prev chap said the other way to do it is via Internet connection sharing and a crossover cable (cheap and cheerful).

Msg me if i can help

They cost about £170 inc vat (DABS.com).

I hope it will be a breeze to set up...

Butty,
There are a few reasons why you cant just put a switch or hub int he middle of a USB connection to PC as the USB actually gets it's power from the USB port via a 9v phantom power line. The cheapest way would to buy a £40 hub and run it of an Ethernet port setting the machine with the modem connected as the other machines "defualt gateway" although the other PC would have to be switched on of you wanted access the net.

Failing that buy yourself a proper router and you can use DHCP behind the primary port, the Netopia's are good although very much aimed at the business market (expensive and high end)the Zxyel's seem to be getting some goods reviews as well, these would likely cost around £200 for a decent one.

HTH,

Phill

Tanks for the replies guys.
Looking at the prices for the routers, I guess I shall get a cheap second ADSL modem and use it on the the other PC.
I have also spoken to Belkin about their 4 port USB switch (F1U200). They promise me that it will work in this application, but with the comment about the power source, i guess it won't, unless it has its own power adapter.
