XP Backup question

A fair few people my find this helpful if you clever people can help me.
My XP disc/install has gone ***** up again. I have data backups so can deal with it many hours of work reinstalling. What I need is how to do a full system backup to CD, complete with all device drivers, mail settings, passwords etc - then just format using a boot disc, whop the backup in and copy the files back to the hard disc.
Is this possible?
